Demetris Assos is the fifth Consul General of Cyprus in Saint Petersburg. He officially assumed his duties on 1 September 2017. He joined the Diplomatic Service in 2009. From 2009 to 2010 he served in the Consular Affairs and Schengen Department, from 2010 to 2014 in the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Tehran and from 2014 to 2017 in the Middle East and North Africa Department. He holds a B.A in History and Politics from Durham University and an M.A in Modern History also from Durham University. In 2009 he received his PhD from the University of London (Institute of Commonwealth Studies).
He speaks Greek and English has a basic understanding of Russian. He is married to Anna Assou and has two daughters.
