Relations with the Netherlands

Relations with the Netherlands go back for centuries. The first recorded contacts date back to the end of the 16th century when Dutch travelers paid isolated visits to the island. Relations remained limited until 1960 when Cyprus gained independence.

The Netherlands established an Embassy in Nicosia on the 23rd of September 2002. Her Excellency Mrs. Nathalie Jaarsma is currently accredited as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of Cyprus.

The Netherlands has been one of the countries that sent UN Peacekeepers to the island. The Netherlands participated in UNFICYP (United Nations Force in Cyprus) with 900 Dutch soldiers from the 9th of June 1998 to the 6th of June 2001.
