The Cyprus question, developments in Turkey, and other issues of mutual interest, were among the topics discussed during the official talks between the Austrian President Heinz Fischer and President Papadopoulos and delegations from both countries.
In a joint press conference after the talks, President Papadopoulos said he reiterated Cyprus’ gratitude to Austria for the principled stand that it has taken concerning the Cyprus problem. He expressed certainty that “this meeting will further strengthen the close friendly relations between our two countries, both on the bilateral level as well as within the EU and at the international level.”
For his part President Fisher said he was very satisfied with the exchange of views and with their discussion. He added that bilateral relations are very good and that the common goal for the future is to work towards further improvement.
After the official talks, President Papadopoulos presented his Austrian counterpart with the Grand Collar of the Order of Makarios III while President Fischer presented President Papadopoulos with the Grand Star of the Decoration of Honour for Services to the Republic of Austria.
