The new Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Iceland, with residence in Copenhagen, presented his credentials to the President of Iceland, Mr Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson, during an official ceremony held on the 7th of May 2024, at Bessastaðir, the Presidential Residence.
During the private audience that followed, the Ambassador conveyed to the President the warm greetings of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, and expressed his commitment to work towards strengthening the already excellent relations and cooperation between the two countries, both bilaterally and within the framework of the European Economic Area. The Cypriot Ambassador briefed the Icelandic President about the latest developments in the Cyprus question and the ongoing efforts of our side to find a just and viable solution.
Welcoming the new Ambassador of Cyprus, President Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson referred to the historically excellent relations between the two countries and expressed his belief in the continuation of cooperation and strengthening of communication between the two island countries, which share common concerns. The President of Iceland also expressed his country’s support in the efforts to find a just and viable solution to the Cyprus question.
