The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the University of Cyprus, in the framework of their cooperation within the research programme “Eurodaktylios”, have published a volume concerning the relations between Cyprus and Ireland the fifth of a series.
The book entitled “IRELAND - CYPRUS: Parallel Journeys. Common Aspirations” is a fascinating journey meandering through time. It demonstrates that, although geographically distant, the two countries are at the same time so close to one another. The book contributes to the development of cultural diplomacy and to the further growth of relations between Cyprus and Ireland, vis-à-vis diplomatic relations and official visits, the cultural, commercial, tourist and other aspects of the relations. Of particular significance are the chapters referring to the Irish contingent in the United Nations Peace Keeping Force in Cyprus and the experiences and testimonies of the Irish blue berets who served here.
On June 26, 2013 the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Andreas D. Mavroyiannis presented the book on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Ioannis Kasoulides at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Remarks were offered also by the Ambassador of Ireland in Cyprus Mr. Patrick Scullion.
