Details : The World Health Organization has declared the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) as an international emergency of public Health of international concern. There are increasing cases of COVID-19 in Italy. So far (24/02/2020) 219 cases and 5 deaths have been confirmed with the majority registered in Lombardy and Veneto regions.
Exceptionally strict measures have been imposed in the regions of northern Italy where most of the cases have occurred, and entry/exit to/from 11 communities is forbidden while the police patrols all the movements (o' Euganeo, Codogno, Castiglione d'Adda, Casalpusterlengo, Fombio, Maleo, Somaglia, Bertonico, Terranova dei Passerini, Castelgerundo, San Fiorano). In particular, in the regions of Lombardy and Veneto schools and universities have also been closed – until 29 February in Lombardy and until 1 March in Veneto- gatherings in public spaces and public events have been banned, and festivities and sporting events, the Venice carnival, as well as carnivals in the wider area of Veneto and Piedmont have been cancelled.
The citizens of the Republic of Cyprus who are currently or reside permanently in Italy are urged to exercise caution, follow the local and international media regarding the developments regarding the outbreak, follow the relevant instructions of the Authorities of Italy and take measures of self-protection as per the instructions of the Authorities of Italy and the international Health Authorities.
