The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the University of Cyprus, in the framework of their cooperation, have set up the exhibition “Hungary-Cyprus: Time-Honoured Relations” and the volume “Hungary-Cyprus: From the Crusades to the European Union”. The exhibition and the volume offer a retrospect of the relations between Cyprus and Hungary from the early Middle Ages to present day. Among the subjects covered are Cypriot and Hungarian Kings in the Crusades, Cypriots in Hungary and Hungarians in Cyprus, diplomatic and commercial relations, cultural exchanges as well as the contribution of Hungarian footballers to the development of the sport in Cyprus.
The exhibition and the volume were presented in Nicosia, from 13 May 2011 to 22 May 2011, at the Famagusta Gate Cultural Centre, on the occasion of the Hungarian Presidency of the EU Council.
The exhibition was opened by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Nicholas Emiliou. Remarks were offered by the Vice-Rector of Academic Affairs of the University of Cyprus, Professor Athanasios Gagatsis and the Chargé d’ Affaires of the Embassy of Hungary to Cyprus, Mr. Endre Szabó.
The exhibition and the volume were presented in Budapest on 8 June 2012, at a special event organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus.
