Inauguration of the photo exhibition “The Destruction of the European Civilization of Cyprus by Turkey – The Tragedy Goes On…”, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - 18/09/2012


The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Erato Kozakou-Marcoullis, will inaugurate tomorrow, at 5 p.m., the photo exhibition entitled “The Destruction of the European Civilization of Cyprus by Turkey – The Tragedy Goes on…”, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Exhibition is presented by the Committee of Cyprus Occupied Municipalities and is organized as part of the cooperation between the Committee and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to raise international awareness on the issue of the destruction of cultural heritage in the occupied areas of Cyprus.

The Exhibition comprises 25 photographic panels which show the destruction of cultural heritage taking place in occupied Cyprus, as well as the history and the most important monuments of the nine occupied municipalities. The issues of the illicit trafficking of antiquities and the destruction of cemeteries and schools in the occupied areas are also presented.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the President of the Committee of Cyprus Occupied Municipalities, Mr Alexis Galanos, will address the event. Attending the event will be Ambassadors accredited to Cyprus, the Mayors and the members of the municipal councils of the occupied municipalities, as well as His Grace Gregorios Bishop of Mesaoria, on behalf of His Beatitude the Archbishop of Cyprus Chrysostomos II.

Meanwhile, the Committee of Cyprus Occupied Municipalities will distribute information material, including a recent publication of a map showing 559 religious sites in the occupied areas of Cyprus and their current condition.
