Applying for the issuance of Cyprus Identity Card

Please ensure that an appointment is made for the submission of an application. For appointments or enquiries please contact 012-3463329 (Pretoria) from Monday until Friday from 13:00 until 15:00 except on public holidays or email us at: pretoriaconsulate@mfa.gov.cy.


Only persons who are registered as Cypriot citizens can apply for the issuance of identity card.

The applicant should submit his/her application for the issuance of identity card in person as it is required the collection of the applicant's biometric data (photo, signature and finger prints) by a consular officer.

If the applicant is a minor both parents, with the minor, must be present at the High Commission of the Republic of Cyprus for the submission of the application.


Applicants are requested to bring the appropriate documents below. The Consular Section will not photo copy any papers. This is the applicant’s sole responsibility.

*Documents that need "apostile":
The Republic of Cyprus has acceded to the Convention Abolishing the Requirement of legalization for Foreign Public Documents, signed in the Hague, on 5.10.1961. The Convention was ratified by the Law 50/72. For the implementation of this Convention, the Ministry of Justice and Public Order has been assigned as the Central Authority.

The Contracting States of this Convention are shown below:

The main provision of the Convention is the exemption from legalisation of any diplomatic or consular legalisation of
foreign legal documents and the limitation of legalisation of the signature of a legal document with the seal “apostile”. This shall apply to public documents which have been executed in the territory of one Contracting State and which have to be produced in the territory of another Contracting State.
