Applying for a Cypriot passport

Please ensure that an appointment is made for the submission of a passport application. For appointments or enquiries please contact 012-3463329 (Pretoria) from Monday until Friday from 13:00 until 15:00 except on public holidays or email us at:

Only holders of Cypriot ID can submit a passport application.

In person submission of applications at the High Commission of the Republic of Cyprus in Pretoria is required for the collection of the applicant's biometric information (photo, signature and finger prints) by a consular officer.

Applicants are requested to bring the appropriate documents above. The Consular Section will not photo copy any papers. This is the applicant’s sole responsibility.

*Please note that incomplete applications will not be accepted.

All minors are eligible to hold a Cypriot ID since June 2012.

If the applicant is a minor both parents, with the minor, must be present at the High Commission of the Republic of Cyprus for the submission of the application.

All minors should have their own passport in accordance with new relevant Regulations of the European Union. Minors that are currently on a parent’s passport will not be able to travel abroad after the 26th of June 2012.

*Documents that need "apostile":
The Republic of Cyprus has acceded to the Convention Abolishing the Requirement of legalization for Foreign Public Documents, signed in the Hague, on 5.10.1961. The Convention was ratified by the Law 50/72. For the implementation of this Convention, the Ministry of Justice and Public Order has been assigned as the Central Authority.

The main provision of the Convention is the exemption from legalisation of any diplomatic or consular legalisation of
foreign legal documents and the limitation of legalisation of the signature of a legal document with the seal “apostile”. This shall apply to public documents which have been executed in the territory of one Contracting State and which have to be produced in the territory of another Contracting State.
