Registration of birth of individuals (minor or adult)
Birth certificates are issued to individuals either minors or adults, who were born abroad after the 16th of August 1960 and whose father at the time of birth was a Cypriot citizen, and by individuals born after the 11th of June 1999, whose mother was a Cypriot citizen at the time of their birth.
The following documents are required to be submitted along with Form M121 to the Diplomatic and Consular Missions of the Republic of Cyprus abroad for the purpose of preparing the application for the above matter.
1) Birth certificate of the applicant issued by a foreign country mentioning the names of both parents.
2) All submitted foreign documents should be duly certified/apostilled, most importantly the birth certificate.
3) Duly completed Form M121 should be signed in front of the Consul /Honorary Consul and fee of Euro 8.54 equivalent in local currency should be paid by the applicant. The Consul / Honorary Consul must use a revenue stamp of above denomination at the appropriate place in the Form M121.
4) Registration of Cypriot parent/s (ID card or passport and registration form for acquiring Cypriot citizenship, where applicable).
5) In case the child is born outside marriage, relevant document of recognition from a Cypriot court should be submitted.
6) As there is no fast track procedure for the issuance of the birth certificates, the matter should not be referred to the Civil Registry and Migration Department for expediting the issuance of the document.
7) In case the applicant is adult, he/she should sign the Form M121 in front of the Consul / Honorary Consul, while in the case of the applicant being a minor, the Form M121 should be signed by the Cypriot parent in front of the Consul / Honorary Consul.
Once the above procedure is completed, the applicants should submit the following documents to the Civil Registry and Migration Department for the issuance of the birth certificate:
1) Duly completed form M121 as mentioned above.
2) Duly certified/apostilled copy of the birth certificate of the applicant issued by a foreign country mentioning the names of both parents.
3) Copy of the passport of the applicant.
4) Copy of the marriage certificate of the parents.
5) Copy of the divorce certificate of parents (in case of previous marriages).
6) Copy of the passport or ID cards of the parents of the applicant.
7) Copy of the certificate registration of parents if they have obtained Cypriot citizenship by naturalization.
8) Payment of fee of Euro 20.
9) Relevant document of recognition from a Cypriot court (for children outside of marriage).
