Military Service Information

Exemption from military service
If a male Cypriot citizen aged 15-50 is a resident or citizen of India or any other country of parallel accreditation and requests an exit permit or an exemption from performing military service in Cyprus, he must first attain a Certificate of Permanent Residency from the Consular Section of the High Commission which he will then present to the Ministry of Defense along with his application for exemption from performing military service.

For the issuance of a certificate of permanent residence in a foreign country in order to be submitted to the Ministry of Defense for exemption from military service, the following documents should be provided by the applicant:

- Valid passport
- Proof of date of first entry to the foreign country
- Certified copy of birth certificate
- Copies of parents passports (if applicable)
- Copy of current passport
- Prepaid return envelope with return address
- The amount of EUR 8.54

Additional Documentation:
- Old passport with which he left Cyprus
- Social Insurance card
- Income tax returns
- Utility bills
- Driver’s license
- School report card, church statement, doctor’s statement etc
