Bilateral relations between Israel-Cyprus, and in particular cooperation in the defense and security sector, were discussed during a meeting which Minister of Defense Christophoros Fokaidis, had Thursday with a delegation of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee of the Israeli Knesset, headed by its Chairman Tzachi Hanegbi .
According to an official press release during the meeting, there was common understanding that the new security challenges, terrorism and generally the promotion of security and stability in the region require partnerships.
The Cypriot Minister said that cooperation with Israel constitutes a strategic cooperation and contributes significantly to achieving this objective.
According to an official press release, Fokaidis noted that the continuous upgrading of relations between the two countries at the level of Ministries of Defence was sealed with the first official visit of an Israeli Defense Minister in Cyprus, and the signing of the SOFA Agreement a week ago.
The Defence Minister praised the role of parliaments in strengthening relations between the two countries and talked about the common vision for the Eastern Mediterranean.
