New Ambassador of the Republic to the State of Israel presents credentials - 06/08/2015

The new Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the State of Israel, Mrs Thessalia-Salina Shambos, presented today, 6 August 2015, her credentials to the President of Israel, Mr Reuven Rivlin, during an official ceremony held in Jerusalem.

During the ceremony, the President of Israel referred to the close bonds of friendship and cooperation between Cyprus and Israel, as well as the long-standing geographical and historical bonds. President Rivlin underlined that the visits of the President of the Republic to Jerusalem and the Prime Minister of Israel to Nicosia, within a short time, show the close cooperation and friendship between the two neighboring countries, which constitute pillars of stability and security, and that the cooperation in specific areas, such as energy, will contribute to the deepening of the bilateral relations.

Presenting her credentials, Ambassador Shambos conveyed the greetings and the invitation of the President of the Republic towards the President of Israel to pay a visit to Cyprus and stressed the importance of enhancing bilateral relations between Cyprus and Israel, which, inter alia, share common sea boundaries, aiming at regional security and stability, reiterating the thousands of Jewish survivors who passed through Cyprus after the Holocaust, creating thus strong friendship bonds. She also briefed the Israeli President on the latest developments in the negotiating process for the solution of the Cyprus problem. The President of Israel accepted the invitation to visit Cyprus and expressed gratitude, on behalf of the State of Israel, for the help and solidarity offered by Cyprus to Jewish survivors of the Holocaust.

Mrs Shambos said that the joint vision for regional cooperation to ensure stability and security and the collaboration in the fields of energy and tackling asymmetric threats constitute a pledge for the continuation of the reliable partner relation of Cyprus and Israel.
