Cyprus has traditionally very close relations with Bulgaria and with Bulgaria’s accession to the EU new prospects are created to further develop bilateral relations in the EU framework as well. Cyprus heartily supported Bulgaria’s EU aspirations, which resulted in Bulgaria’s accession in the EU on January 1st, 2007. In the framework of this support: (a) The House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus unanimously voted in favour of the Accession Treaty of Bulgaria and Romania in the EU. Cyprus the fourth in a row EU member state voting in favour. (b) The government of the Republic of Cyprus decided not to set any limitations to Bulgarian workers wishing to work in Cyprus after their country’s accession in the EU.
