The Chair of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, Mr. Ioannis Kasoulides, addressed today a colloquy at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg which aimed at strengthening cooperation to protect cultural heritage from wanton destruction and preventing the illicit trafficking of cultural goods.
The colloquy is organised jointly by the Cypriot chairmanship of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers and the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mr. Thorbjorn Jagland.
Minister Kasoulides said: “our aim is to explore innovative approaches, to seek synergies and to foster capacity-building to effectively protect cultural property from destruction and to combat the illicit trafficking of cultural artefacts”.
