Issuance of an Emergency Travel Document (ETD) in case of theft or loss of passport
An Emergency travel document (ETD) is only issued in cases of emergency, when Cypriot nationals are deprived of the use of their passports (either due to theft or loss) and are valid for only one trip to return to Cyprus.

In order to issue an ETD, the following documents should be sent/ presented to the Embassy or Consulates of the Republic:
  1. Full details of the Cypriot citizen (i.e. full name, occupation, place and date of birth, address of present residence, height, colour of eyes, special peculiarities and whether he/she is accompanied by any children).
  2. A photocopy of the Cypriot citizen’s identity card or passport.
  3. Τwo recent passport-sized photographs.
  4. The equivalent in local currency of €20 for the issuance of one ETD.
  5. Police Certificate for lost or stolen passport (with English translation).

The issuance of an ETD does not mean that the person is automatically entitled to leave the country, as there may exist relevant local procedures with which the person needs to comply (for example, in China, Cypriot nationals are required to present the ETD to the local authorities in order to be issued an exit visa by the Chinese side, before they are allowed to board their flight. Five working days are needed for the issuance of the said exit visa).

In case of theft or loss of passport, please contact your nearest Embassy or Consulate, for further assistance.
