In recent years, there has been a considerable strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries. This has been illustrated by the official visit of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades to the UAE in 2014 and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ioannis Kasoulides in 2013. As a follow-up to the President’s visit in 2014, the first round of political consultations between the two countries took place in Nicosia in May 2016, followed by a meeting of Minister Kasoulides and H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the UAE, in Nicosia in July 2016.
According to the most recent figures, the total general trade volume, including the Free Zones, between Cyprus and the UAE in 2015 amounted to USD 102 million, while there are more than 100 Cypriot-owned companies with a presence in the UAE, and more than 1000 Cypriots living in the United Arab Emirates.
