CANADIAN PASSPORT HOLDERS DO NOT NEED A VISA TO ENTER CYPRUS

If you are a holder of a Canadian passport you do not need a visa to enter Cyprus for a stay of up to 90 days.


HOLDERS OF A EUROPEAN UNION SCHENGEN VISA DO NOT NEED A VISA TO ENTER CYPRUS

Third country nationals that hold a valid Schengen visa Type C and who have already entered Schengen territory according to the stipulations governing the issuance of the Schengen Visa they hold, can travel to Cyprus without acquiring a Cyprus national visa. They can stay in the Republic of Cyprus for the duration of a period equal to the remainder of the period of legal stay as stated on their Schengen visa and at least until the expiration date of their visa.

CATEGORIES OF VISAS

Single entry visas:

This visa entitles aliens to enter the territory of the Republic of Cyprus once, for reasons other than immigration. The duration of the stay may not exceed 90 days (three months).

Multiple entry visas:

As a general rule, this visa is issued for one or several entries. In the case of aliens who need to travel frequently to Cyprus, e.g., business, this type of visas is issued for several visits, provided that the total length of these visits does not exceed 90 days (three months) in any 180 days (sixth months). This multiple-entry visa may be valid for one year and, in exceptional cases, for more than a year, but for no more than five years for certain categories of persons.

VISA APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

All applications should be submitted at least 10 working days before your travel, with all the required documentation listed below:

1. A full national passport, valid for at least three months after the date of expiration of the visa applied for. Visitors wishing to obtain a visa are advised to be in possession of a passport whose expiration date, outdates the period of intended stay for at least 6 months. Children registered on their parents’ passport may travel to the Republic of Cyprus until they reach the age of sixteen (16).

2. Visa application form, duly completed and signed. A Notary Public must certify the signature of the applicant if the application for a visa is submitted by mail. In case of minors both parent’s signatures need to be notarized.

3. One color photo (4x3cm).

4. Provisional booking/itinerary. Air tickets should not be purchased before the visa is issued.

5. Copy of applicant’s Canadian Permanent Resident Card or Canadian visa (where applicable).

6. If staying in a hotel, a confirmation of the reservation from the hotel management is needed along with the name of the applicant and the confirmation dates of stay.

7. Copies of applicant's bank statements for the past three months.

8. A recent (less than 1 month old) letter from employer on a letterhead addressed to the Consulate General with proof of the applicant salary/wages. If self employed a letter from the registrar, the accountant or the bank manager of the applicant.

9. If the applicant is a student, a letter from the school or university addressed to the Consulate General stating that the applicant is registered at the institution and for the period of registration.

10. For minors (under 18), an approval of both parents or legal guardians with a copy of each parent’s/guardian’s passport is required together with the birth certificate of the child including the names of the parents.

11. If travelling on business or for a conference, an official letter of invitation on a letterhead with the contact details of the company.

If visiting a friend or family (additional visa requirements):

1. Assumption of responsibility form fully completed, signed by the host and certified by the local municipal authorities or a certifying officer in the Republic of Cyprus. (please find herebelow)

2. Certified copy of host's passport or ID.

3. Letter of invitation with full addresses and contact details of host.

4. If host is supporting applicant's trip financially, proof of income of host for past three months or bank certificate is necessary.

5. Bank guarantee letter, valid for one month. The bank guarantee letter should be stamped also by the Migration Department in Nicosia (if requested).

Single entry visa (1 - 90 days): Money order or bank draft payable to the Accountant General of the Republic of Cyprus for the equivalent of € 20 in CANADIAN DOLLARS

Multiple entry visa, valid for 1 - 5 years: Money order or bank draft payable to the Accountant General of the Republic of Cyprus for the equivalent of € 60 in CANADIAN DOLLARS

Gratis Visas are issued for:

  • Spouse of EU/EEA/CH citizen (copy of valid marriage certificate and spouse’s EU/EEA/CH passport)
  • Children of EU/EEA/CH citizen (copy of unabridged birth certificate and Parents EU/EEA/CH passport)

SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION, DOCUMENTS AND FEES
  • The visa application, the fees and the requested supporting documents can be submitted in person or by mail.
  • Payments can be made in cash or by money order cheque (bank draft) equivalent to Canadian dollars, payable to the "Accountant General of the Republic of Cyprus". For current exchange rate please see Consular Services.
  • If you apply by registered mail or courier, you should enclose a self-addressed prepaid envelope for returning the passport and the documents.
  • The application for a visa must be submitted to the Consulate General at least ten working days prior to the applicant’s proposed date of travel. Please send your visa application and accompanying documents to:

  • Please note that applicants can be requested to personally attend an interview at the Consulate General.
  • The visa fees are only for the evaluation and the processing of a visa application. In case of a rejection of the application, the visa fees are not refundable.
  • Additional supportive documents may be requested by the Consular officer to verify the validity of the application.
  • The granting of a visa does not automatically entitle the holder to enter the Republic of Cyprus.

ADMISSION AND TRANSIT RESTRICTIONS

The following entry regulations apply in entering the Republic of Cyprus:

1. A valid passport is required, except for holders of:

  • Laissez-Passer issued by the United Nations.
  • Travel Document issued to stateless persons and recognised refugees in accordance with the Geneva Convention of 1951.
  • Citizens of European Union countries, as well as of Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway may enter Cyprus with their national identity card provided it contains a photograph.

2. The Consulate General informs that visas will be granted to applicants with itineraries through the legal ports of entry into the Republic of Cyprus which are the International airports of Larnaca (LCA) and Paphos (PFO) and the ports of Larnaca, Limassol, Latsi and Paphos.
