Parliamentary delegation from Cyprus attends IPU Assembly in Geneva - 25/10/2016 12:42:45


A parliamentary delegation from the House of Representatives in Cyprus is currently in Geneva, attending the 135th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) which was inaugurated yesterday, October 24, and will run through until October 27.

The Cyprus delegation to the Assembly is headed by Mr. Averof Neofytou MP, President of the Democratic Rally (DISY) and comprises also MPs Mrs Skevi Koukouma-Koutra (Progressive Party for the Working People - AKEL), Mr. Marinos Mousiouttas (Democratic Party - DIKO) and Mrs. Anna Theologou (Citizens’ Alliance). The delegation is accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Parliament, Mrs. Vasiliki Anastasiades and officers hailing from the International Relations Department of Parliament.

More than 700 MPs from 138 countries are attending this global parliamentary conference, discussing among other issues specific ways in which parliaments can respond effectively to serious human rights violations and their underlying causes, including human rights situations likely to lead to conflict.

The Permanent Mission welcomes the Cypriot Parliamentary delegation to Geneva and wishes its members a productive week in the framework of the 135th IPU Assembly.
