The Minister of Labour, Welfare and Social Insurances, Mrs Zeta Emilianidou, is currently visiting Geneva, as Head of Cyprus's tripartite delegation to the 105th annual meeting of the International Labour Conference, which takes place here.
Today, Minister Emilianidou addressed the plenary of the Conference, referring inter alia to the universal obligation to combat poverty and social exclusion. She also underlined the need to ensure decent work conditions, as well as to implement the adequate measures of social protection for vulnerable groups.Mrs Emilianidou also referred to the Minimum Guaranteed Income that was applied in Cyprus and its positive results in relation to combating poverty and reiterated Cyprus’ readiness to contribute to the efforts of all countries to fight poverty and achieve stable growth for all. Yesterday, the Minister met with the Director General of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), Mr. Guy Ryder [photo below].The meeting, which was held in the margins of the Conference, reaffirmed the excellent cooperation between Cyprus and the ILO and its continuation with the aim of optimising conditions in the fields of social welfare and labour.
