Minister of Health in Geneva to address World Health Assembly - 23/05/2016

The Minister of Health of Cyprus, Dr George Pamporides, has arrived in Geneva on a four-day working visit, heading the Cyprus delegation to the 69th Assembly of the World Health Organisation (WHO).

During his stay in Geneva, Minister Pamborides is scheduled to address the Assembly and hold a series of bilateral meetings with a number of his counterparts, hailing both from European and other States. He is also foreseen to pay an official visit to CERN, the first by a Cypriot Minister following Cyprus’s accession to the organisation as an associate Member State on 1st April 2016.

Dr Pamporides took part in the meeting of the group of Commonwealth Health Ministers held here yesterday, at the end of which Cyprus has assumed the Presidency for the next annual cycle. During a private meeting held earlier today with the Commonwealth Secretary-General, Baroness Patricia Scotland [photo below], Dr Pamporides had the opportunity to exchange views on the current challenges in the health sector, with special emphasis on the way in which the Commonwealth could support the initiatives that may be undertaken in the framework of the Cypriot Health Minister’s Presidency.
