1. POWER OF ATTORNEYS


The Cyprus Consulate does not have the facility to draw up Power of Attorneys’.

‘Specific Power of Attorney’ documents must be prepared in advance. Please note that it cannot be based upon UK legislation as this is not valid in the Republic of Cyprus.

How to Certify a Power Of Attorney

For a Power of Attorney to be certified the Principal (signatory) must attend the Cyprus Consulate in person, with the document and either a passport or a national identification card.

If unable to visit the Cyprus Consulate then Power of Attorneys can be certified by an Honorary Consul in the same manner as above.

Alternatively the document can be signed before a Notary Public and subsequently forwarded to the Cyprus Consulate in London for verification of the Notary’s signature and stamp. If this is to be forwarded by post it must be accompanied by a self addressed envelope.

The cost for certifying a Power of Attorney or Verifying a Notary’s signature is the equivalent of €8.54 in GBP. Payments must be made either in cash or by postal orders. Postal Orders should be made payable to The Cyprus High Commission.




2. AFFIDAVITS


An affidavit must be signed before a Notary Public and subsequently forwarded to the Cyprus Consulate in London for verification of the Notary’s signature and stamp.

If it is to be forwarded by post it must be accompanied a self addressed envelope and the fee.




3. APOSTILLES


Apostilles, as specified by the Hague Convention of 1961, can be issued by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. An apostilled document to be accepted in Cyprus does not need any further legalization by the Consulate General. The competent Ministry for Apostilles in Cyprus is the Ministry of Justice and Public Order. Such a document can be presented to a competent UK authority without further legalization by the Consulate General.
