1. Registration of Persons of Cypriot Origin as Citizens of the Republic of Cyprus and the Acquisition of Cypriot Citizenship by Naturalisation

Persons wishing to apply for registration as a Citizen of the Republic of Cyprus must apply in person or for minors by both parents to the Cyprus Consulate in London, or to the Honorary Consuls accompanied with the following documentation:


Registration of Minors (under the age of 18)

For minors born in the United Kingdom to a Cypriot father; for those born to a Cypriot mother after 11/06/1999; and for those born prior to this date to a Cypriot mother and whereby no marriage exists between the parents:
  • Application forms M.121 in duplicate
  • Original full birth certificate
  • Parent’s passports
  • Marriage Certificate (where a marriage has taken place)
  • Where no marriage has taken place, each parent must submit a sworn declaration (sworn before a Notary Public) recognising the minor as their biological child.
  • Fee is the equivalent of €20

For minors born to a Cypriot mother prior to 11/06/1999, application M.126 must be submitted with the above documentation as well as following:
  • Two photographs (of the child)
  • Consent of the parent who is not a Cypriot citizen
  • Fee is the equivalent of €80

It should be noted that in cases where the parents are divorced the consent of both parents is required or a Family Court Decision for parental care if necessary.


Registration of Adults of Cypriot Origin (over the age of 18)

For persons of Cypriot Origin born on or after 16/08/1960:
  • Application forms M.123 in duplicate.
  • Original Birth Certificate
  • Valid Passport
  • Parents’ and/or Grandparents’ Republic of Cyprus documentation (i.e Birth Certificates, Passports, ID cards)
  • Fee is the equivalent of €50
For persons born before 16/08/1960 application M.171 or M.172 is submitted with the above documentation on completion of one years residency in Cyprus or on the renunciation of current citizenship.


Registration as a result of marriage with a Cypriot Citizen

Applications for registration of persons who have contracted a marriage with a Citizen of the Republic of Cyprus may be submitted on the completion of three years of marriage.
  • Application Form (M.125)
  • Original Birth Certificate
  • Valid Passport
  • Spouse’s Republic of Cyprus passport
  • Marriage Certificate
  • Character reference of applicant
  • Reference confirming cohabitation.
  • Fee is the equivalent of €300



2. Issue of Birth Certificates

3. Delayed registration of Births


For those persons of Cypriot origin, born in the Republic of Cyprus, who were not registered at the time of their birth, and now in the United Kingdom, must apply directly to the District Administration Officer in the district they were born with the following documentation:
  • Affidavit sworn before a Notary Public (verified by the Cyprus Consulate in London)
  • Original birth certificate
  • Valid Photo Identification (i.e. passport; Id card; Driving license)
  • Parents’ Republic of Cyprus documentation (i.e. Birth Certificates, Passports, ID cards)
  • Marriage Certificate (where a marriage has taken place)
  • Fees (£6 payable in postal orders)



4. Re-Issue of birth certificates


For those persons of Cypriot origin, born in the Republic of Cyprus, who require a replacement birth certificate must apply directly to the District Administration Officer in the district they were born with the following documentation:
  • Republic of Cyprus birth certificate
  • Photocopy of Valid Photo Identification (i.e. passport; Id card; Driving license)
  • Fees (£6 payable in postal orders)

Please note that in cases where a copy of the birth certificate is not available it is advised that applicants forward photocopies of parents Republic of Cyprus documentation.



5. Death Certificates


Applications for the registration of death of a Cypriot citizen who died abroad are submitted to the Registry Office in the local District Administration Office, with the following documentation:
  • Form M.138 (obtainable from the Local District Administration Offices)
  • Death certificate from the country where the death occurred
  • Fees £6 payable in postal orders
