Issue/Replacement of Identity Cards


Application for the issuance of an Identity Card of the Republic of Cyprus

Based on the provisions of the Civil Registry Law, the Civil Registry and Migration Department (CRMD) is responsible for the issuance of Identity Cards to Cypriot citizens. The CRMD issues identity cards with biometric data (photograph and fingerprints) as well as the signature of the holder. To ensure compliance with relevant data protection regulations, the fingerprints of the holder are erased from the system within 48 hours of the issuance of the identity card.

The acquisition and possession of a Civil Identity Card is compulsory for any person who has completed twelve years of age and is provisional for minors below that age.

Persons, over the age of twelve and currently residing in the United Kingdom, who wish to apply for a Republic of Cyprus Identity Card, may do so by submitting their application with the Consulate General of the Republic of Cyprus in London. All applications must be made in person in order to allow for the collection of the relevant biometric data (photograph, fingerprints and signature).

All applications should be accompanied with the following documentation:

  • Application Form (see PDF attached)
  • Republic of Cyprus Identity Card (for renewal purposes)
  • Original Birth Certificate or certified true copy of the original (where applicable).
  • Original or certified true copy of the original Naturalization or Registration Certificate (where applicable).
  • In the event that the applicant wishes to change details on their ID Card (photograph, name due to marriage/ divorce), the submission of the following certificates is necessary: Birth certificate, Marriage certificate, Divorce certificate, Passport etc.
  • Original Marriage Certificate or certified true copy of the original (where applicable).
  • For lost or stolen ID Cards (Police Report or Police Case Number).
  • Photographic identification: i.e. valid passport, identification card, driving license (where applicable).
  • Application Fee: Adults equivalent of €30/ Minors €20 in GBP.
  • Any other documentation deemed necessary by the Consulate General.

Minors below the age of 12:

The application must be signed by both parents in the presence of an officer of the Consulate General. In the event that either parent is unable to be present due to absence overseas, the application must be submitted and signed by the parent who is present, accompanied with a certified written consent of the parent who is absent (explicitly mentioning the provision of consent for the issuance of an identity card to the minor).

In the event that the minor’s parents are divorced, the application may be submitted by the guardian (with the submission of the competent Court Order that confirms guardianship and parental responsibility).

During the application procedure, a duly trained and authorized officer will photograph the minor. No other biometric data is collected.

Minors over the age of 12:
