The new Ambassador of Cyprus to Russia presented his credentials to President Putin- 3/10/2017

The new Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Russian Federation, Mr. Leonidas Markides, presented, at a ceremony held at the Kremlin, his credentials to the President of Russia, Mr. Vladimir Putin.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Russian President outlined the main pillars of the Russian foreign policy, noting its priorities and Russia’s principled positions on international matters.

Referring to Cyprus, he said: “Our relations with the Republic of Cyprus are gaining momentum. They are based on the cultural and spiritual kinship of our peoples. I am confident that during the upcoming visit of President Nicos Anastasiades to Russia in October, important bilateral documents in a variety of areas will be adopted. Russia has consistently called for a comprehensive, just and viable solution to the Cyprus problem in line with the United Nations Security Council resolutions.”

During a brief conversation with Mr. Putin after the ceremony, Ambassador Markides thanked the Russian President for his country’s strong and continued support on the Cyprus problem and assured him of his readiness to work for further reinforcing the traditionally excellent bilateral relations between Russia and Cyprus.
