(A). ACQUISITION OF CITIZENSCHIP DUE TO CYPRIOT ORIGINS

Registration of Persons of Cypriot Origin as Citizens of the Republic of Cyprus and the Acquisition of Cypriot Citizenship by Naturalisation

Persons wishing to apply for registration as a Citizen of the Republic of Cyprus must apply in person or for minors by both parents to the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Berlin or to the Consulates accompanied with the following documentation:

(a) Application for the Registration of Newborns who were born abroad (M121)

· Application forms M121 in duplicate
· International Birth Certificate issued by the German Authorities with «ΑPOSTILLE»
· Parent’s passports
· Marriage Certificate (if the marriage has not taken place in Cyprus, an «APOSTILLE» is requested). Where no marriage has taken place, each parent must submit a sworn declaration (sworn before a Notary Public) recognizing the minor as their biological child.
· Fee is €20
· Stamp worth €8.54 attached to the application
· Two photographs (of the child)
· Written consent of the parent who is not a Cypriot citizen

(b) Application for the Registration of Minors or Adults (type M121)

It can be submitted by either minors or adults (above the age of 18), who were born abroad after the 16th of August 1960 and whose father at the time of birth was a Cypriot citizen, and by individuals born after the 11th of June 1999, whose mother was a Cypriot citizen at the time of their birth.

Accompanying documents:

· Application forms M121 in duplicate
· International Birth Certificate issued by the German Authorities with «ΑPOSTILLE»
· Parent’s passports
· Marriage Certificate ( if the marriage has not taken place in Cyprus, an «APOSTILLE» is requested). Where no marriage has taken place, each parent must submit a sworn declaration (sworn before a Notary Public) recognizing the minor as their biological child
· Fee is €20
· Stamp worth €8.54 attached to the application
· Two photographs (of the child)
· Written consent of the parent who is not a Cypriot citizen

(c) Application for the Registration of Minors (type M126)

It can be submitted for minors, who were born prior to the 11th of June 1999 in Cyprus or abroad and whose mother is a Cypriot citizen and father a foreigner or for minors whose father acquired the Cypriot citizenship after their birth. Additionally the application can be submitted for minors, whose father or mother acquired the Cypriot citizenship by Naturalization or by Registration due to marriage with a Cypriot citizen.

Accompanying documents:

· Birth certificate of applicant
· Marriage certificate of applicant’s parents
· Photocopy of the applicant's and the applicant’s parents’ passports
· Birth certificate of the Cypriot parent
· Certificate of acquisition of the Cypriot citizenship of the Cypriot parent (where applicable)
· Declaration of the foreign parent signed before an officer of the District Administration Office or the diplomatic authority consenting to the granting of the Cypriot citizenship to minor child. The statement is not required if the Cypriot parent had obtained a court decision for sole parental care of the minor. A copy of the relevant court decision should be attached
· Photocopy of receipt for the amount of €80 paid as fees
· A stamp of €8.54 placed on the application
· Two photographs (passport size)

(d) Application for the Registration of Adults (above the age of 18)

(i) Application type M70 or M71 (born prior to the 16th of August 1960)

(ii) Application type M123 (born after the 16th of August 1960)

(iii) Application type M124 (born either before or after the 16th of August 1960)


(i) Application type M70 or M71 (born prior to the 16th of August 1960)

It can be submitted by persons born prior to the 16th of August 1960, who are citizens of the United Kingdom and its former colonies and who originate from Cyprus form the male side.

Accompanying documents:

- Birth certificate of applicant
- Birth certificate of applicant’s father
- Photocopy of applicant’s passport
- Photocopy of receipt for the amount of €20 paid as fees
- A stamp of €1.71 placed on the application

(ii) Application type M123 (born after the 16th of August 1960)

It can be submitted by adults who were born after the 16th of August 1960, whose mother is a Cypriot citizen and father a foreigner.

Accompanying documents:

- Birth certificate of the applicant
- Marriage certificate of the applicants parents
- Photocopy of the applicant's and the applicant's parents' passports
- Birth certificate of the Cypriot parent
- Certificate of registration of the Cypriot parent (where applicable)
- Copy of proof of fees paid €50
- The application should be submitted in duplicate and one of the two Application forms should bear two stamps worth €8.54

(iii) Application type M124 (born either before or after the 16th of August 1960).

It can be submitted by adults, who were born either before or after the 16th of August 1960 and are British citizens or citizens of any State of the Commonwealth and have completed one year of legal residence in the Republic.

Accompanying documents:

- Birth certificate of applicant
- Certificate of clean criminal record of the applicant
- Photocopy of applicant’s passport
- Photocopy of receipt for the amount of €80 paid as fees
- The application should be submitted in duplicate and one of the two Application forms should bear two stamps worth €8.54


PLEASE NOTE that all public documents issued abroad must:

a) Bear an official translation into Greek or English from Press and Information Office in Cyprus or an official translation by a sworn translator registered as such in Germany

b) Be certified with APOSTILLE if the country has signed the Hague Convention of 1961 or

c) Certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country of origin of the applicant and then by the Embassy/Consulate of Cyprus in his country or

d) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country of origin of the applicant and then the Embassy / Consulate of his country in Cyprus and then certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus

e) In the instance that the country of origin of the applicant has not signed the Hague Convention of 1961and there is no Embassy /Consulate in the above mentioned country the documents must be certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country of origin of the applicant and then the nearest Embassy / Consulate which is accredited to Cyprus.

(B). ACQUISITION OF CITIZENSCHIP AS A SPOUSE OF A CYPRIOT CITIZEN (TYPE M125)

These applications can be submitted by foreign spouses of Cypriot nationals, who have completed three years of marriage or have a common child.

Accompanying documents:

- Birth certificate of the applicant and the Cypriot partner
- Certificate of clean criminal record of the applicant
- Marriage certificate
- Birth certificate of the couple’s children
- Photocopy of the applicant’s passport
- Photocopy of the Cypriot spouse’s passport
- Statement of harmonious cohabitation signed before an Officer of the District Administration Office or the diplomatic authority
- The application should be submitted in duplicate and one of the two application forms should bear two stamps worth €8.54
- Photocopy of receipt for the amount of €300 paid as fees

PLEASE NOTE that all public documents issued abroad must:
