Tourism in Cyprus

  • Cyprus is a privileged country with a history of more than 10,000 years. The passage of 10 millennia has provided this small country with an incredible and valuable heritage and an enviable culture. The fact that UNESCO has included in its Official World Heritage List the Sanctuary of Aphrodite, remains of the Roman market, the Neolithic settlement of xhirokitia and ten of the Byzantine churches in Troodos, gives us an idea of the vast cultural heritage of the island.
  • Alexander the Great and Cleopatra are related to the island. Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, was born in Cyprus.
  • Despite the fact that throughout its history it has been the victim of conquerors, Cyprus preserved its Hellenic culture with some distinctive characteristics.
  • Today, Cyprus, is a modern and harmonized country within the European family, constituted by its historical and cultural heritage, a living evidence of the roots of European culture. Its town has managed to combine its proud history and cultural heritage with ultra-modern infrastructure and a cosmopolitan lifestyle.
  • A cheerful place where the feeling that time does not exist is magnified by the friendliness of its people.
  • Since the Republic was established, tourism has played an important role in the island's economy, which is why since 1960, after rapid growth, it has become one of the main tourist centers in the Mediterranean.
  • Cyprus, at the intersection of Europe, Asia and Africa, is located northeast of the Mediterranean Sea, 75 km. south of Turkey, 90 km. west of Syria and 380 km. east of the Greek island of Rhodes. It is the third largest island in the Mediterranean, after Sicily and Sardinia, with an area of 9,251 km2.
  • Due to its geographical position and climatic conditions, it encompasses a variety of interests, offering a wide range of services to tourists.
