Issue and Renewal of Passports

The Passport Section of the Ministry of Interior issues and renews passports and travel documents to Cypriot citizens. Children up to the age of 12 may be registered on their parent's passport, either their mother's or their father's upon the issue of a passport to their parent. Children over 12 years of age should have their own passport. The application should be completed by the minor applicant (under 18 years of age) but then signed by both parents in the presence of the Consul.

Applications for the issuance or renewal of a passport or a travel document are submitted at the Consular Section of the Embassy if the applicant resides or visits (in the case of loss of passport) Ireland.

The procedures and documents required in each case for either the issuance or the renewal of a passport are set out below:

(A) Issuance of passport for the first time:

- Completed application form M.9 (English version) (Greek version). The Consular Officer of the Embassy should endorse part V of the application.

- Two recent photos 4x5 cm which need to be certified by the Consular Officer.

- Official Birth Certificate in original.

- Issuance fee of €42,72 for a passport consisting of 32 pages or €68,34 for a passport consisting of 64 pages.

- Official Marriage certificate for women who want their husband's surname to be added to the passport.

- Certificate of Cyprus Citizenship in case where the applicant acquired the Cyprus citizenship by registration or naturalization.

(B) Renewal of passport expiring ten years after its issuance:

- Completed application form M.9 (English version) (Greek version). The Consular Officer of the Embassy should endorse part V of the application.

- Issuance fee of €42,72 for a passport consisting of 32 pages or €68,34 for a passport consisting of 64 pages.

- The previous passport or other travel document which has expired.

(C) Renewal of passports, which for various reasons have been issued for a period of less than ten years (loss, minors, members of the national guard):

- Completed application form M.16 (Greek version). The Consular Officer of the Embassy should endorse part V of the application.

- Two recent photos 4x5 cm which need to be certified by the Consular Officer.

- The previous passport or other travel document which has expired.

- Official Birth Certificate or Identity Card or any other official document that declares the identity of the applicant.

- The renewal is made without charge.

(D) Application for a new Passport in case of loss:

- Completed application form M.9 (English version) (Greek version). The Consular Officer of the Embassy should endorse part V of the application.

- Certificate issued by the police stating that the applicant has reported his/her passport lost.

- Two recent photos 4x5 cm which need to be certified by the Consular Officer.

- Official Birth Certificate or Identity Card or any other official document that declares the identity of the applicant.

- Issue fee of €85,43.

NOTE: Due to the fact the Embassy does not issue passports itself but instead sends the applications to the Ministry of Interior in Cyprus, applicants wishing to apply for a new passport or for a renewal of their existing passport should do so well in advance of any scheduled trip they are planning on taking since the process can be time-consuming.
